Supervision Minimum Percentage
The minimum percentage of fieldwork hours in each supervisory period (one calendar month) that must be conducted under direct supervision: 5% for supervised fieldwork, 10% for concentrated (pre-2027), and 7.5% for 2027 BCBA concentrated (BCaBA concentrated stays 10%).
Definition
The supervision minimum percentage is the floor for how much of your fieldwork in each supervisory period, one calendar month, must be conducted under direct supervision. It is measured month by month, not across your whole fieldwork, and that is exactly what makes it one of the most commonly failed compliance requirements: every single month has to clear the bar on its own. The minimum varies by fieldwork type: 5% for supervised fieldwork, 10% for concentrated fieldwork under pre-2027 standards, and 7.5% for BCBA concentrated fieldwork under 2027 standards (BCaBA concentrated stays at 10%).
The consequences of a short month depend on your fieldwork type. In supervised fieldwork, the month may be prorated: fewer of that month's hours count, enough that the supervision you did receive meets the threshold. In concentrated fieldwork, there is no proration. A concentrated month that misses its minimum is lost entirely. Either way, the damage is confined to that month, and no amount of extra supervision later can restore it.
In practice the percentages translate to real scheduling. A 100-hour month of supervised fieldwork needs at least 5 supervised hours within that same month. An intense 130-hour month needs 6.5. The candidates who get caught are usually the ones logging heavy independent hours while a supervision session slips to "next week" until the month runs out. Watch the current month's percentage, not just your overall progress, and schedule supervision before the calendar closes it out.
Why This Matters
This is the most commonly failed compliance requirement. It is measured within each calendar month, and a month that misses its minimum is settled: prorated in supervised fieldwork, lost entirely in concentrated fieldwork.
Examples
-
Supervised Fieldwork: a 100-hour month needs at least 5 supervised hours that month (5%)
-
Concentrated Fieldwork (pre-2027): an 80-hour month needs at least 8 supervised hours that month (10%)
