Fieldwork Verification

Fieldwork verification is the process by which the BACB confirms that your completed fieldwork meets all the requirements for your certification pathway. This process occurs when you submit your certification application and can include a review of your fieldwork documentation, verification of your supervisor's credentials, and in some cases, a detailed audit of your hour logs, supervision records, and compliance data.

The verification process is why meticulous documentation throughout your fieldwork is so important. The BACB may ask to see your monthly summaries, supervisor attestation forms, supervision contracts, and detailed hour logs. If there are gaps, inconsistencies, or missing signatures in your records, the verification process can be delayed significantly — sometimes by weeks or months — while you track down the necessary documentation.

Not every application receives a full audit, but you should prepare as if yours will. This means keeping your records organized and up-to-date from the first month of fieldwork, not scrambling to compile documentation after you have finished. Having your supervisor review and sign monthly summaries in real time, rather than asking them to sign off on months of records retroactively, produces cleaner documentation and a smoother verification experience. The candidates who breeze through verification are almost always the ones who treated documentation as an ongoing practice, not a final task.
