The key distinction between a BCaBA and a BCBA is the supervision requirement after certification. While BCBAs practice independently, BCaBAs must always work under the oversight of a BCBA. This does not diminish the value of the credential — BCaBAs play critical roles in service delivery, particularly in clinical settings where they implement programs designed by their supervising BCBA and contribute to data-driven decision making.
Fieldwork requirements for BCaBA candidates are less intensive than for BCBA candidates. The unrestricted activity minimum is also lower at 40%, compared to 60% for BCBA candidates.
